Each year, Convergint Technologies gives colleagues a “Fun & Laughter Day” which includes $100 and a day off from work with only one requirement: it must be used for fun and laughter. Convergint’s Safety Manager Michael Gross has used his last three Fun & Laughter Days volunteering at Warrior’s Weekend, an event of fishing and relaxation for wounded American warriors, their families, and their caretakers. Held annually in Port O’Connor, TX, Warrior’s Weekend is a special event where those who attend come away with a deep sense of pride in the commitment of soldiers to protect the nation and the resolve of the American people to support them.

Warrior’s Weekend XI was held this year on Saturday, May 20. Gross volunteered as a boat captain and his wife, Monica, a deck hand, on one of the 450 deep sea fishing boats at the event. The event began with the troops arriving Saturday morning by chartered buses. After a grand welcome rally, the veterans boarded the boats and began fishing. The evening ends with fish contest results, music, and addresses by military dignitaries.

In 2016, one of Gross’ Warriors caught a 24 inch, 4.78-pound speckled trout, which earned a 2nd place trophy, and this year one of his warriors caught a 20 inch, 4.15-pound gaff-topsail saltwater catfish – bringing home a first place trophy!

I’m fortunate to work for a company that will pay me for a day to go out and have some fun and laughter. I decided three years ago I wanted to use it as a way to give back.”

Convergint was built on a solid foundation of Values & Beliefs. Value & Belief #10 is: We promote fun and laughter on a daily basis. The company’s 10 Values & Beliefs drive the positive culture and are what truly makes Convergint different.

“At Convergint, our last Value and Belief is all about having fun,” said Convergint Co-Found Dan Moceri. “You are going to work hard, so make sure you enjoy the work you do….In the end, that’s what really counts: that your work is something that fulfills and excites you, as much as it provides for you.”

“This is a great event, and we are very proud to be able to participate each year,” Gross said. “But we as citizens of the United States can never do enough for these brave men and women to repay them for the sacrifices they have made for our country.”
