Convergint Technologies Birmingham, Alabama on a map

A global security technology company has entered the Birmingham market with ambitious expansion plans – including a new tech center that will create dozens of jobs.

Convergint Technologies, a physical and electronic security integration organization, is looking to beef up its presence in Birmingham and Alabama, and recently hired a regional manager to lead the charge.

The company is actively seeking property for offices in the Magic City and along the I-65 corridor. It also plans to open a technology center that will employ about 50 people over the next five years. Executives with the company said acquisitions are also a possibility as it looks to boost its presence.

The company offers electronic video, access, alarm and intrusion security on a commercial level and typically works with health care entities, college campuses, government, the energy, oil and gas industries. Alabama region General Manager Jeff Holland said

Convergint already has two multiyear contracts in the state: one with Auburn University, and the Convergint healthcare technology division is contracted with University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The company also currently has a bid out on a contract for the state.

“Our intention is for Alabama to be a $25 million market for us,” Holland said. “If you look at Convergint’s history, in 15 years we’ve gone from two guys with a vision to a $650 million company,” he said.

The company has acquired 12 others during its 15 years and has over 70 locations across 13 countries with 2,300 employees.

“The industry here is very fragmented,” Holland said. “We think that there is a gap here to fill.”
