Convergint Women Connect Recognizes Annie Walker For Making a Daily Difference

I’ve been with Convergint a little over a year and a half, January will make it two years. My current role is Project Manager. I primarily run my projects and also of course give support to my team coordinators and project managers whenever they may be needing it. I check in when I can to make sure that they’re doing good sometimes if we’re in the office together, I’ll spin my chair around and ask things like how are you doing? How are things going? But if I don’t see them in the office, or if we are remote and we haven’t crossed paths in a couple of days, then I usually touch base and call them to check in. It’s just kind of a mental health check, just to see how they may be doing with the workload and their life in general. I try to keep the conversations about work, but at the same time not strictly about it because what’s going on in their personal life does matter because that affects how you work.

I like to put out a response to let people know if I can do anything or if I’m needed to step in. Actually, I created a spreadsheet for our department. It wasn’t in my job description per se, but I knew it was a need and I knew I could fill it and it didn’t affect my work. So I just worked around that and it was a very important need for all of us to to be on the same page. It would’ve solved so many issues that they were dealing with before I was placed in the seat.

Even when no one’s looking, it’s just a subconscious response as I work, as I communicate with my team, with my colleagues, and with customers. I’m going to help you to the most extreme extent that I can. Whatever I can’t do, I’ll hand off in a clear manner. But I always make sure that the circle is complete. I’ve got to close the circle.

I’m excited about the changes that are coming. We were just moving on to the Convergint platform with Spectrum. So they are good changes, a lot more transparency than what we had before. Before, we weren’t really allowed to see the financials or anything like that. Now everything is open and allows us to pay attention to it. In my previous role, I was used to seeing the financials. But now here we have that visibility, which helps with the decision making and should help with the projects. I’m excited to see the changes that continue to push through to make our jobs a little easier!

I have a lot of songs completely memorized. I have a very strange set of music taste, I’m a big 90’s R&B person. So I would say I know many of those types of songs by heart.

My secret in making a daily difference is just being yourself while being supportive of others. Just wanting the best for everybody along with yourself. As long as you give it to other people, they will help you along the way. So really just being kind and being nice. It gets you a long way.
