Convergint Women Connect Recognizes Samantha Walker for Making a Daily Difference

I have been with Convergint 13 years. I believe it is 12 years officially, because I started as a temp. I started as a receptionist 13 years ago, working directly with Greg, Dan, Tony Varco, and Wally. It was pretty amazing. Then at some point Kathy Rayburn was the manager for Chicago and said, “I want her.” So instead of transitioning into AP, which usually happens to a receptionist, I ended up transitioning into Chicago. I was Kathy’s assistant for a long time and through that I started learning how to do bookings and things like that to help her. Just growing that relationship with Kathy was great. Kevin Pryor had wanted me to go to his side because I was getting more and more involved in operations because I like helping people. I don’t just want to pick up the phone and not be able to assist, I want to be able to resolve it or find you someone who can help them. So, I started moving toward operations.

I’m under Michael Crow now and I have been there ever since. 2020 is when I got my promotion to Project Cost Administrator. I do stuff for AP in the evening. It is kind of one of those things where I have been there for so long and I have had the pleasure to work with some of the big boys on the CDC side. There is so much knowledge that I just try to take in everything that I can. The more you know the more you’re like to stay and move in your career path.

I love it because I never really have to do the same thing and I get to help a lot of people.

For me, I am going to do the same thing regardless if I have twenty people watching me or I’m by myself. I know you guys don’t know me, but my CTC does. I’m a little bit of a firecracker sometimes. I want to make people laugh. The whole work from home thing was huge. During that time,  none of us were micromanaged. I proved a lot to myself then. Sometimes working until 6 or 7pm to get the job done not necessarily for anyone else, but for me, I have to get the job done.

D365. The pilot just happened, and we are the first wave. It is exciting and a little terrifying.  There is so much to clean up still. It is exciting because I had people calling about D365 and saying, ‘Sam, you are the go to person, what do I need to know about this?” That part is very exciting. So I’m really looking forward to not getting kicked off Spectrum and be able to get on.

We have the CDPs in Chicago right now, it is really exciting. I got to talk to them when I was doing some Databasics stuff with them. So it is really fun and exciting to see them in the office, fresh out of college with so much hope. I tell them you are going to love it; we are like a family.

We all have our days when we don’t want to get out of bed. However, there hasn’t been a day in my thirteen years here that I’m like, God I cannot go to this place one more time. It has never been that. When I hear people complain, I know they have never really had a bad job. I can’t speak for each CTC, but I feel like we are all kind of the same.

So my stepson and my grandson are always doing their little dance to this Astronauts in the Ocean song. I find myself listening to it in my car by myself now.

Treating people how I want to be treated and making life easier for everybody. I feel like that is my purpose in life in general. If I can bring that into Convergint and make people not stress about something to save them ten minutes out of their life, then it is definitely worth it. It is amazing to know that those little things make a difference and matter to them.
