Brian Lipscomb, Manager of Advanced Cyber Solutions for Convergint Technologies/Cybis, shares a cybersecurity update for the transportation industry.

On June 28, 2018 the TSA Intelligence and Analysis (TSA I&A) issued a threat memo regarding evidence of cyber threats being launched against airports, which is being reviewed by the FBI. The potential launch of network operations suggest that the attack vectors will likely be remote network access, airport wi-fi systems and physical security system vulnerabilities.

Airport operators are encouraged to be attentive to the following suspicious activities:

  • Observing unusual computer activity (e.g., shutting down or restarting without user involvement, mouse moving without user involvement)

  • Observing an unusual degradation of service, sudden lack of access, or unexplained deletion or alteration of information

  • Receiving alerts for malware (e.g., viruses, worms) on your computer

  • Receiving suspected phishing emails
