South Seminole Middle School in Orlando, Flordia recently received a security upgrade from Convergint’s STEP Up for Schools initiative. By leveraging its unique position as a security integrator, Convergint aims to make a difference in local communities and encourage others to also step up and do what they can to make schools more secure for children.

Before the security upgrades, the school was considered an “open campus”, allowing visitors to come and go without supervision. Through Convergint’s donations of materials and its colleagues’ work, their camera total was brought from 6 to 36 and helped create a virtual fence line. This project was featured by WFTV Orlando in a recent newscast, featured below.

About STEP Up

Enhancing school security can provide a vital level of protection for students, faculty, and visitors. In that spirit, Convergint created its STEP Up initiative to help strengthen security in our schools. This program was launched during Convergint’s annual Social Responsibility Day. Convergint colleagues went out into their local communities and provided underserved schools with interior and exterior security systems installations, security upgrades, and security assessments.
