Creating a safe place for employees and passengers goes beyond mass transit terminals. Transit authorities face the same challenges of ensuring public safety, managing incidents, reducing risks, and addressing liability claims on board moving trains and buses.
Omnicast, Genetec’s IP video surveillance system, part of the unified security platform, the Security Center, helps tackle these issues by increasing information sharing and reducing response time to incidents. Omnicast is easy-to-use and has an open-architecture video management system.
Genetec Omnicast: IP Video Surveillance
A big advantage of the Omnicast surveillance system on board a bus fleet is the multiple ways in which the video can be easily accessed. In the event of an incident, dispatchers and analysts can view video from the bus through a wireless connection, facilitating both real-time emergencies and investigations. The ability to see what is happening at stations enables officers and detectives the opportunity to be proactive in community policing.
Operators can also send a request to the Omnicast system for a specific instance of video. Once the bus is back at the terminal, the system will automatically offload the video to the central archiver through a wireless network, and automatically email a notification to the end user once the transfer is complete. This automatic video offloading was enabled by an Omnicast feature called Video Trickling which helps minimize bandwidth consumption.
