On the 18th of June 2021, Convergint colleagues took part in Convergint Social Responsibility Day. Due to COVID-19 restrictions in the UK, colleagues were unable to come together to work on a project. Instead, UK colleagues were responsible for organizing their own volunteer projects in their local areas.

Below, see highlights from Social Responsibility Day projects across the UK.

Chailey Heritage Farm

The UK design team visited Chailey Heritage Farm to dig the groundworks for a new wheelchair access path allowing the children to get closer to the chicken coup.

Discoveries Community Charity Cafe

The UK Service team visited Discoveries Community Charity Café, where four cycle racks were required to be installed. The Café provided the materials and a helper. The team helped by digging holes, leveling racks, and cementing them in.

Crowborough Cricket Club

Colleagues Steve Dorking, Glyn Middleton, Jim Townsley, and Ian Easton went to Crowborough Cricket Club to paint and improve the pavilion for training, guests, and visiting players.

The outside windows and doors were in dire need of a fresh look, having been left untouched during COVID times, so the team cleaned, sanded, and repainted them. The work has certainly made the outside more welcoming, and was commented on the following day by the parents of the juniors and the visiting team that afternoon.

Tonbridge Baptist Church

Ann Jeffrey and Juliet Jeffrey went to the food bank at the Tonbridge Baptist Church. They were first provided with a shopping list and asked to go shopping for supplies. After shopping, they helped pack bags of food. The food bank is open three days a week, and up to 80 people turn up on each of these days for help. The food bank is funded by donations and manned through volunteers, and COVID-19 has resulted in an increased need for this service in the community.

Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels

Colleague Paul Smart currently volunteers for the Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels network, which is part of the Scottish Wildlife trust, as a Grey Squirrel Controller. The local team has a project underway to set up a new monitoring station in the area, and required some additional Red Squirrel feeder boxes. Paul offered his services to provide these for Convergint Social Responsibility Day. The day was spent in the workshop manufacturing the boxes from a variety of timber, tire inner tubes, and perspex sheets. The team ended up with 16 feeder boxes, which will now be deployed at the monitoring station.
