Speakers

Burke Swearingen is a law enforcement and security professional with over 40 years of experience. A 1981 graduate of Auburn University, he began his career as a reserve police officer with the Auburn, Alabama Police Department. After graduating Auburn, he joined the police force in Jackson, Alabama then later joined the Homewood Alabama Police Department where he remained for 23 years. He worked his way through the ranks serving in numerous roles in both patrol and investigations. Promoted in 2003 to Chief of Police, he served in that role until his retirement in 2007. He then began a career in corporate security, working for Regions Bank before assuming the position in 2014 as Manager of Physical Security at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.

He is a 2006 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, a certified Chief of Police and a graduate of the Aubrey Daniels Institute of Performance Management. Appointed by the Alabama Speaker of House of Representatives in 2009, Burke was a founding member of the Alabama Security Regulatory Board, a state board that regulates the private security industry. He served as the Board Chair from 2009-2015 and currently serves as Vice-Chair.

Burke is actively involved in numerous professional organizations including the Birmingham Chapter of ASIS where he served as Chair in 2003, the Metropolitan Criminal Justice Executives Association and the FBI National Academy Associates. Currently, he is Board Chair of the Corporate Security Leadership Council, a security working-group comprised of Blue Cross Plan security managers.

Steve Pazienza is the Senior Executive – Director of Enterprise Safety and Security at Humana Inc. He is responsible for driving the development, execution, and management of proactive and predictive risk programs and security strategies dedicated to protecting the company’s people, property, information, and reputation. Prior to joining Humana, Steve completed 7 years of meritorious duty as a U.S. Marine Corps Commissioned Officer/Combat Arms and Marine Corps Security Forces before joining the U.S. Secret Service for an elite assignment leading, managing, and supervising investigations, physical security techniques, and ultimate protection for the President, First Family, and Heads of State. Steve earned an Executive Masters of Business Administration from Bellarmine University and holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences from Xavier University. Steve is currently a sponsor of Men Advocating for Real Change (MARC), he also holds a leadership position with the Domestic Security Alliance Council (DSAC). In the fall of 2020, Steve represented Humana at the COVID-19 Road to Recovery event as a featured speaker along with former President, George W. Bush, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and Sir Richard Branson. Steve is an active volunteer with Team Rubicon, a volunteer/veteran-based emergency disaster organization.

Chris Lutz brings over 27 years of experience across several industries, most notably over 18 years in the healthcare sector. He has held multiple leadership roles throughout his career in the areas of sales, marketing, and operations. Chris holds a BS from Michigan State University and an M.B.A from Roosevelt University.

Chris recently joined Convergint in 2021. As Vice President of Healthcare for Convergint, he is responsible for providing vertical support to field-based colleagues, as well as creating a strategic business plan and market intelligence oversight.
