The Department of Justice COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) Office announced this week that the 2023 School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) is open to applications.

The SVPP is a competitive grant program that provides funding to states, local government, and indigenous tribes/public agencies. Awards are specifically designed to support:

  • Security improvements at schools and on school grounds

  • Evidence-based school safety programs

  • School safety equipment and programs

All eligible K-12 schools are encouraged to apply by the May 17th deadline. The award is capped at $500K per school.

About the SVPP program 

The Students, Teachers, and Officers Preventing School Violence Act of 2018 (STOP School Violence Act of 2018) gave the COPS Office authority to provide awards directly to States, units of local government, or Indian tribes to improve security at schools and on school grounds in the jurisdiction of the grantee through evidence-based school safety programs and technology.
