In Conversation: Insights on Growth Culture in APAC

I joined Convergint (formerly ICD) in 2010 as a Project Manager. I had been working in the security industry with an end user for several years, but I felt there was limited scope to learn and grow. The opportunity with the role at Convergint to expand my technical knowledge of security systems, understand system integration, and take on new challenges really attracted me. There were new challenges from day one, but I embraced it. I learnt new systems, was soon single-handedly managing large customers in the region, and taking on increasingly complex projects. In 2017, I was promoted to Senior Project Manager.

As the India team continued to grow, in 2020 I was given the opportunity to take on the role of System Department Manager in North India. I now manage a team of 30+ service engineers and project managers, overseeing our service delivery across the region. At the same time, I act as a National Project Manager for a key customer across India, enabling me to continue my passion for project management.

Yes, Convergint India today is very different from 13 years ago—it’s been incredible to be part of this journey. When first I joined, we were a much smaller team so we had to figure out how to get things done and deliver results ourselves. It was challenging, but our leaders’ mindset and the team’s dedication enabled us to grow and be successful. Slowly we built up a strong reputation in the market and were able to secure more jobs and various high-profile customers. Our ability as a company to step outside our comfort zone and take on new challenges enabled us to move into new verticals, explore new systems and technologies, and evolve with changes in the industry. This opened new opportunities and fueled our growth.

All the challenges along the way taught me a lot. I became stronger and gained a range of experience from technical knowledge, to managing customer relationships, team development, and expanding the business in the region. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to learn and grow.

What I am most proud of is the respect I have gained from the company, colleagues and leadership. Leadership has always given me the freedom to make decisions and act without going through endless approvals or questioning. This confidence in my abilities is very rewarding and makes my work more efficient and enjoyable. At the end of the day, it’s part of our culture: to take ownership, make responsible decisions, and deliver results.
